- receptor for interferons alpha & beta
- isoform 1 & isoform 3 are directly involved in signal transduction due to their interaction with the TYR kinase, JAK1
- isoform 1 also interacts with transcriptional factors, STAT1 & STAT2
- both isoforms are potent inhibitors of type 1 IFN activity upon binding
- phosphorylated on Tyr
