Function
- probable ligand for integrin in the brain
- non catalytic metalloprotease-like protein
- precursor is cleaved by a furin endopeptidase
Structure
- conserved motif [AVN[ED]CD] within the disintegrin-like domain could be involved in the binding to the integrin receptor
- contains 1 disintegrin domain
- contains 1 EGF-like domain
- contains 1 peptidase M12B domain
Compartment
membrane
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- expressed predominantly in brain
- slightly detected or not at all in other tissues
Pathology
- rearrangements occur in breast cancer & ovarian cancer which involve multiple exons & disrupt the coding region
Notes
- may be produced at very low levels due to a premature stop codon in the mRNA, leading to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay
