• required for DNA replication & cell proliferation
• required for S-phase checkpoint activation upon UV-induced damage
• phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR
• interacts with the ATR-ATRIP complex & with RAD17
• interacts with TIPIN
• forms a stable trimeric complex with CDC21 & p105MCM; protein BM28/Mcm2 is more loosely associated with the trimeric complex
