Introduction
Surgical removal of one or both ovaries.
Indications
- prophylactic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO), with or without hysterectomy, after completion of childbearing is the standard of care for female carriers of BRCA1 mutation or BRCA2 mutation[4]
Complications
- increased risk of Parkinson's disease[1] (RR = 1.8)
- increased risk of cognitive impairment[2] (RR = 1.6)
- increased risk of cardiovascular disease[3]
- increased risk of chronic renal failure[6]
- increased all-cause mortality[5]
