exercise stress testing

Indications

• angina pectoris with ability to exercise
• left-bundle branch block acceptable for exercise stress echocardiography

Contraindications

• exercise intolerance (COPD)

Procedure

• discontinue beta-blocker 24-48 hours prior to testing
• beta-blockers &/or nitrates can be continued if they are long-term medications & the indication for stress testing is to assess need for additional evaluation (coronary angiography), or to assess the efficacy of current therapy (MKAP20)

Notes

• myocardial ischemia during exercise stress testing due to coronary artery disease
