Contraindications
- of no benefit in acutely ill patients[2]
Mechanism of action
- most important serine protease inhibitor in plasma
- regulates the blood coagulation cascade
- inhibits thrombin, factor IXa, factor Xa & factor XIa
- inhibitory activity is greatly enhanced in the presence of heparin (heparin cofactor)
