confluent & reticulated papillomatosis

Etiology

• hypotheses
  • endocrine disturbance
  • disorder of keratinization
  • abnormal host reaction to fungi or bacteria
  • hereditary disorder
  • variant of amyloidosis

Epidemiology

• rare
• generally affects young people

Clinical manifestations

• often asymptomatic
• may experience mild pruritus
• reticulated & pigmented macules, patches, & plaques most commonly on the chest
• exacerbations & remissions

Management

• no treatment is necessary other than for eradication of rash
• oral minocycline
• topical mupirocin
• 70% isopropanol swabbing for hyperpigmentation
• weight reduction may be of benefit
