Indications

• hypogonadism

Contraindications

• breast cancer
• known or suspected prostate cancer

* caution use in the elderly (insufficient safety data)

Dosage

• start 237 mg BID (take with food)
• titrate to 150-396 mg BID*

* based on serum testosterone drawn 6 hours after the morning dose at least 7 days after starting treatment

Capsules: 158,, 198, & 237 mg

Adverse effects

• hypertension
• increased risk of cardiovascular disease
• polycythemia
• diarrhea
• dyspepsia
• eructation
• peripheral edema
• nausea
• headache
• prostatic hypetrophy

Drug interactions

• insulin: may reduce insulin requirements; monitor for hypoglycemia
• anticoagulants: may affect INR
• glococorticoids in combination may increase risk of edema
• drugs known to increase blood pressure
