Indications
Contraindications
Dosage
- 1 drop every 5-10 minutes
- do NOT exceed 3 times
- apply finger pressure to lacrimal sac during & 1-2 minutes following application for medication to reduce frequency of systemic side effects
Pharmacokinetics
- maximal mydirasis & cycloplegia in 15-60 minutes
- usual duration of action 24 hours
Adverse effects
- burning senstation (frequent)
- blurred vision
- sensitivity to light
- local irritation
- increased intraocular pressure
Mechanism of action
- cyclopentolate blocks action of acetylcholine
- phenylephrine stimulates alpha-1 receptors
