Introduction
Tradename: Cyclogyl.
Indications
- induction of mydriasis & cycloplegia for procedures
- uveitis, posterior synechiae
Dosage
- 1 drop followed by another in 5 minutes
- give 40-50 minutes prior to procedure
- apply finger to lacrimal sac during & for 1-2 minutes following instillation to reduce frequency of systemic adverse effects
- Mydriasis: 1 drop QD-TID for 1-2 days
- Cycloplegia: 1 drop QD-TID for 1-2 days
- use 0.5% solution for children
Ophthalmic: 0.5 % 1.2%
Pharmacokinetics
- maximal mydriasis & cycloplegia in 15-60 minutes
- usual duration of action is 24 hours
Adverse effects
- not common (1-10%)
Mechanism of action
- blocks cholinergic stimulation in the ciliary body & sphincter muscle of the iris
