Etiology
Epidemiology
- occurs in up to 2 percent of births
Pathology
- an inflammatory condition of pregnant women in which the chorion & amniotic fluid are in infected with bacteria
Clinical manifestations
- fever
- tachycardia
- pelvic pain, tenderness
- vaginal discharge with an unusual smell
Laboratory
Diagnostic procedures
- ultrasound visualization of fetus
Complications
- maternal
- abdominal infection, pelvic infection
- endometritis
- thromboembolid
- newborn
- bacterial infection, including sepsis
- meningitis

- delivery of fetus
