Artificial imperfect approximation for human breast milk.

An exact reproduction of human breast is not possible because:

the exact chemical properties of breast milk are still unknown
mother's breast milk changes in response to the feeding habits of her baby & over time, thus adjusting to the infant's growth & development
breast milk includes a mother's antibodies that provide the baby humoral immunity

1st preparations for the feeding of infants were produced commercially in 1867 by Justus von Liebig
most infant formulas are based on either cow milk or soy milk
iron-fortified formula associated with lower scores on cognitive & visual-motor tests at age 10 years, vs low-iron formula^[4]
hydrolyzed infant formula provides no protection against allergies or autoimmune disease^[5]
