Adverse effects
- anorexia
- nausea/vomiting
- dizziness
- dyskinesia
- usually choreiform movements
- effect is dose dependent
- generally occurs after prolonged therapy
- psychosis
- impulse control disorders[6][7]
- compulsive behavior
- punding[5]
- gambling, shopping, hypersexuality[3]
- dementia
- depression
- excessive daytime sleepiness & sleep attacks[2]
- sedation[5]
- peripheral edema
- adverse effects are dose-dependent & minimized by slow titration
- abrupt withdrawal of dopamine agonists has been associated with a syndrome resembling neuroleptic malignant syndrome or akinetic crises - taper to discontinue[4]
