No special patient preparation is necessary.

Urine: Collect timed or random specimens by standard laboratory procedures. Timed specimens are preferred: DO NOT USE URINE CONTAINING CHELATING AGENTS. (e.g. Citrates, Oxalates, or EDTA)

Special Precautions:

Urine: Refrigerate specimen during collection & keep refrigerated until analysis. Do not freeze urine specimen. Analyze as soon as possible after collection.

Do not use urine specimens that contain glacial acetic acid, concentrated hydrochloric acid, or urine preservative tablets containing hexamethylenetetramine & mercuric oxide.

Minimum sample size 0.5 milliliters with an optimum size of 1.0 milliliter or larger.
