Introduction
A class of calcium channel blockers
Pharmacology
- inhibits L-type calcium channels
- dilation of coronary arteries & arterioles
- increased myocardial oxygen delivery
- decreased systemic vascular resistance
- increased cardiac output
- more selective for vascular smooth muscle than non-dihydropyridine Ca+2-channel blockers
- does not alter contractility or AV nodal conduction
Adverse effects
- headache
- flushing
- dependent peripheral edema
- orthostasis
- tachycardia
