Introduction
Hypothenar fascia & compartments: Hypothenar muscles:
- abductor digiti minimi
- flexor digiti minimi
- opponens digiti minimi Thenar fascia & thenar compartment: attached to the palmar aspect of the 1st metacarpal. Thenar muscles: chiefly responsible for opposition of the thumb.
- abductor pollicis brevis
- flexor pollicis brevis
- opponens pollicis Central compartment: covered by the palmar aponeurosis. Midpalmar space covers the central comapartment, the muscles act on all the phalanges except the thumb. Short muscles:
- Lumbricals
- Dorsal & the palmar interosseous Adductor comparment: deepest muscular plane, contains the adductor pollicis muscle.
