palmar interosseous (interosseous volaris)

Introduction

Three muscles in the hand.

Origin

• 1st: ulnar side of 1st metacarpal
• 2nd & 3rd: radial sides of 4th & 5th metacarpals

Insertion

• 1st: into ulnar side of index finger
• 2nd & 3rd: into radial sides of 4th & 5th fingers

Action

adducts fingers toward axis through the middle finger

Innervation

ulnar nerve
