Introduction

The thenar eminence refers to the fleshy mass at the lateral side of the palm of the hand, i.e. the ball of the thumb.

Structure

-the thenar eminence is covered by the thenar fascia

Muscles

muscles making the bulk of the thenar eminence include:

• abductor pollicis brevis
• flexor pollicis brevis
• opponens pollicis (deep)

Innervation

derives from cervical spinal nerve C8
