Pathology

• envenomation results in pustules & blisters
  • anaphylaxis can occur
• IgE-mediated wheal & flare reactions in many patients
  • development over hours
  • pruritus, edema, induration, erythema
  • presistence up to 72 hours ;

Management

• epinephrine for anaphylaxis (see epinephrine or Ana-Kit)
• local reactions treated with antihistamines & cool compresses
  • topical glucocorticoids may be useful
  • oral prednisone in severe cases
