Epidemiology
- diet is the main source of pesticide exposure in children & adults without occupational exposure
Adverse effects
- exposure may be risk factor for Parkinson's disease
- exposure may be a risk factor for amyotropic lateral sclerosis (ALS)[3]
- exposure may be risk factor for ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder)
- exposure to indoor residential insecticides may be associated with risk for childhood leukemia (RR=1.47) & lymphoma (RR=1.43)[2]
- outdoor insecticides are not associated with risk for childhood cancer[2]
- outdoor herbicide exposure may be associated with risk of childhood leukemia (RR=1.26)[2]
- pesticides on fruits & vegetables may diminish success of infertility treatment with assisted reproduction technology[4]
- exposure to pyrethroid insecticides is associated with increased mortality[5]
