Introduction
Aldosterone secretion from the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal gland is stimulated by angiotensin II. The effect of aldosterone is predominantly on the distal tubular network of the kidney, effecting an increase in Na+ in exchange for K+. Effect mediated via mineralocorticoid receptor.
Aldosterone may have deleterious effects on the myocardium. (see aldosterone antagonist)
