adrenal (suprarenal) gland

Function

• the adrenal gland is one of the endocrine glands secreting steroid hormones from the cortex & catecholamines (epinephrine & norepinephrine) from the medulla

Structure

• a flattened, roughly triangular gland lying adjacent to the superior surface of the kidney
• it is attached primarily to the crura of the diaphragm.

Arterial supply

• rich arterial supply, in contrast to its limited venous drainage, which is critically dependent on a single vein
