Indications

• alternative agent for treatment of chloroquine-resistant malaria

* potential to be repurposed as COVID-19 therapy

Contraindications

pregnancy

Dosage

• 8 mg/kg repeated at 6 & 12 hours
• may be repeated in 1 week in patients without immunity

Adverse effects

• abdominal pain
• diarrhea
• pruritus
• dose-related prolongation of PR & QTc

• drug adverse effects of antimalarials

Drug interactions

• other agents that prolong the QT interval
• quinine
• quinidine
• mefloquine

• drug interaction(s) of antibiotics with warfarin
