Introduction

Tradename: Hemabate. (carboprost tromethamine)

Indications

• post-partum bleeding
• termination of pregnancy

Dosage

• 250 ug IM or directly into the uterus every 15-20 min up to 4 doses.

Injection: carboprost 25 ug, tromethamine 83 ug/mL (1 mL)

Adverse effects

• common (> 10%)
  • nausea
• less common (1-10%)
  • flushing
• uncommon (< 1%)
  • hypertension, hypotension, hiccups, drowsiness, vertigo, breast tenderness, nervousness, fever, headache, dry mouth, vomiting, diarrhea, vasovagal syndrome, hematemesis, muscle pain, dystonia, blurred vision, bladder spasms, cough, asthma, respiratory distress, taste disturbance, septic shock
