Epidemiology
- account for ~30% of ovarian tumors
- incidence ratio of whites:blacks is ~ 5:1 (USA)
Genetics
Clinical manifestations
- 95% of GCTs occur in the gonads, the rest occur in extragonadal tissues (see extragonadal germ cell neoplasm)
Laboratory
- alpha-fetoprotein may be secreted
- chorionic gonadotropin may be secreted
