Function
- initiates transcription in gene with RNA polymerase 2, TFIID (or Sp1?), & TFIIB bound
- recruits TFIIH to the initiation complex & stimulates the RNA polymerase 2 C-terminal domain kinase & DNA-dependent ATPase activities of TFIIH[2]
- both TFIIH & TFIIE are required for promoter clearance by RNA polymerase 2
- required for transcription
Structure
- tetramer of 2 TFIIE-alpha & 2 TFIIE-beta chains[2]
Genetics
- encoded by 2 genes
More general terms
- adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase)
- molecular complex
- general transcription factor (basal transcription factor, transcription initiation factor)
