Function
- recruits TFIIH to the initiation complex & stimulates the RNA polymerase 2 C-terminal domain kinase & DNA-dependent ATPase activities of TFIIH
- both TFIIH & TFIIE are required for promoter clearance by RNA polymerase 2
- interacts with TAF6/TAFII80
Structure
- TFIIE is a tetramer of 2 TFIIE-alpha & 2 TFIIE-beta chains
- belongs to the TFIIE alpha subunit family
- contains 1 HTH TFE/IIE alpha-type domain
