• recruits TFIIH to the initiation complex & stimulates RNA polymerase 2 C-terminal domain kinase & DNA-dependent ATPase activities of TFIIH
• both TFIIH & TFIIE are required for promoter clearance by RNA polymerase 2
• interacts with FACT subunit SUPT16H

Structure

• TFIIE is a tetramer of 2 TFIIE-alpha & 2 TFIIE-beta chains
• belongs to the TFIIE beta subunit family
• contains 1 TFIIE beta DNA-binding domain
