Function
- role in formation of cell surface protrusions downstream of activated PDGFB receptors
- role in actin-microspike formation through cooperation with WASL
- may cooperate with WASP & WASL to induce mobilization & reorganization of the actin filament system
- interacts with WASL & WASP, interaction results in cytoplasmic relocation of these 2 proteins along actin filaments
- interacts with NCK2 resulting in the localization to sites of focal adhesions
- no interaction observed with WASF2 & WASF3
Structure
- contains 1 WH2 domain
- access to profilin-binding site is masked in full-length protein
Compartment
- cytoplasm, cytoskeleton
- localized to stress fibers & bundles of actin filaments
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- expressed mainly in brain, colon, lung, stomach (at protein level)
- ubiquitously expressed, with high expression in brain, kidney, lung, & placenta
