Function
- orphan receptor
- may have a functional role in the central nervous system
- ubiquitinated by PARK2 in the presence of UBE2E1 & UBE2L3 in the endoplasmic reticulum
- the unfolded form is specifically ubiquitinated by SYVN1, which promotes its proteasomal degradation & prevents neuronal cell death
- forms a complex with PARK2, STUB1 & HSP70
- interacts with PACRG
Structure
- belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family
Compartment
- cell membrane, endoplasmic reticulum membrane
- multi-pass membrane protein
Expression
- expressed in brain & spinal cord,
- expressed at lower levels in testis, placenta & liver
- not expressed any other tissue
- when overexpressed in cells, tends to become insoluble & unfolded
Pathology
- accumulation of unfolded GPR37 may lead to dopaminergic neuronal death in juvenile parkinson disease (PDJ)
