Introduction

4 subtypes of glutamate/aspartate transporters have been defined by differences in sequence, pharmacology, tissue distribution, & channel-like properties:

GLAST1 & GLAST2 are astroglial transporters

GLAST3 & GLAST4 are selectively localized in neurons
