Function
- receptor for IFN-alpha & IFN-beta
- binding to type 1 IFNs triggers tyrosine phosphorylation of a number of proteins including JAKs, TYK2, STAT proteins & IFNR alpha- & IFNR beta-subunits themselves
- phosphorylated on Tyr by TYK2 tyrosine kinase
Structure
- belongs to the type 2 cytokine receptor family
- contains 3 fibronectin F3 modules
Compartment
isoform 1: membrane
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- IFN receptors are present in all tissues & even on the surface of most IFN-resistant cells
- isoform 1, isoform 2 & isoform 3 are expressed in the IFN-alpha sensitive myeloma cell line U266S
- isoform 2 & isoform 3 are expressed in the IFN-alpha resistant myeloma cell line U266R
- isoform 1 is not expressed in U266R
