Function
- histone H2B
- phosphorylated on Ser-14 by STK4/MST1 during apoptosis
- may facilitate apoptotic chromatin condensation
- phosphorylated on Ser-14 in response to DNA double-strand breaks, & in connection with somatic hypermutation & immunoglobulin class-switch recombination
Structure
- in contrast to other H2B histones, does not contain conserved residue in C-terminus that is target of monoubiquitination
- belongs to the histone H2B family
Compartment
Genetics
- mouse orthologous protein seems not to exist
- could be the product of a pseudogene
