Introduction
Vestigial relatives of known genes no longer expressed.
They may retain gene-like features including promoter elements, CpG islands & splice sites.
Features that suggest a pseudogene include:
- lack of introns
- truncation of a TATA box
- lack of ESTs
- lack of stop codon
