Function
- role in maintaining Golgi structure
- stimulates the formation of Golgi stacks & ribbons
- involved in intra-Golgi retrograde transport
- highly phosphorylated during mitosis
- phosphorylation is barely detectable during interphase
- interacts with RAB1A that has been activated by GTP-binding, & possibly also with OCRL1
- interacts with isoform CASP of CUX1
Structure
- homodimer
Compartment
- Golgi apparatus membrane
- single-pass type 4 membrane protein
- found throughout the Golgi
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- ubiquitous
- highly expressed in seminiferous tubules & Leydig cells in testis
- detected at much lower levels in the other tissues
- expression is very low or not detectable in spermatozoa
Pathology
- translocation t(10;14)(q11;q32) with RET is a cause of papillary thyroid carcinoma
