Introduction
Band # from SDS gel of erythrocyte ghosts.
Function
-thought to regulate cation conductance
- may regulate ACCN1 & ACCN3 gating (putative)
- interacts with ACCN1, ACCN2 & ACCN3 (putative)
- interacts with LANCL1
Structure
- homooligomer containing between 9 & 12 monomers
- belongs to the band 7/mec-2 family
Compartment
- cell membrane, cytoplasmic side
- lipid-anchor, cytoplasmic side
- melanosome
- exposed on the cytoplasmic surface of the membrane
- associated with lipid rafts
- concentrates preferentially in plasma membrane protrusions & in a juxta-nuclear region which may represent Golgi-derived vesicles
- colocalizes with actin
Expression
widely expressed
Pathology
- stomatin is deficient in hereditary stomatocytosis
