Function
- this protein participates in processes of transmission & amplification of the visual signal
- component of hetrotetramer composed of 2 catalytic chains (PDE6A, PDE6B), an inhibitory chain (PDE6G) & PDE6D
guanosine 3',5'-cyclic phosphate + H2O = guanosine 5'-phosphate
- binds 2 divalent metal cations per subunit
- site 1 may preferentially bind Zn+2
- site 2 has a preference for Mg+2 &/or Mn+2 (putative)
Structure
- belongs to the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase family
- contains 2 GAF domains
Compartment
- cell membrane; lipid-anchor; cytoplasmic side (putative)
Pathology
- defects in PDE6A are a cause of retinitis pigmentosa, autosomal recessive
