Introduction
In reference to the upstream direction of DNA or RNA. The upstream direction would be towards the origin of DNA replication or RNA transcription. Since double-stranded DNA consists of antiparallel strands of complementary DNA, the 5' end of one strand will be the 3' end of the other.
