Introduction
In reference to the downstream direction of DNA or RNA. The downstream direction would be away from the origin of DNA replication or RNA transcription. Since double-stranded DNA consists of antiparallel strands of complementary DNA, the 3' end of one strand will be the 5' end of the other.
