- 20-77 pg/mL
Clinical significance
- high ANP or BNP is associated with increased risk of major cardiovascular event
- high level of either peptide also predicts increased risk for heart failure & atrial fibrillation[2]
Increases
- congestive heart failure
- cardiovascular disease with elevated cardiac filling pressure
- cardiac volume overload
- atrial pacing
- paroxysmal atrial tachycardia
Decreases
Specimen
- plasma (K2EDTA)
- collect blood into pre-chilled tubes & deliver to the lab on ice
- centrifuge in a refrigerated centrifuge & freeze plasma promptly
- stable for 4 weeks at -25 degrees C
