Function
- negative regulator of AP-1 mediated transcription by binding to Jun proteins
- Jun/B-ATF heterodimers bind DNA preferentially at the AP1-site (TRE) (consensus: 5'-TGA[CG]TCA-3') & weaker at the cAMP responsive region (CRE) (consensus: 5'-GTGACGT[AC][AG]-3') but are transcriptionally inert
- forms heterodimers with JUN, JUNB & JUND
- interacts with IFI35
- phosphorylated
Structure
- belongs to the bZIP family
- contains 1 bZIP domain
Compartment
Expression
- expressed at highest levels in lung, & at lower levels in placenta, liver, kidney, spleen, & peripheral blood
- strongly expressed in mature B- & T-lymphocytes
Pathology
- detected in SW480 colorectal cancer cell line & in several hematopoietic tumor cell lines, including Raji Burkitt's lymphoma
