Function
- transcriptional activator
- binds to the GA element of the CLCNKA promoter
- KLF15 binds to the beta-adrenergic receptor ADRB1 & switches it off[2]
- KLF15 maintains white adipocytes selectively within white adipose tissue
- deletion of KLF15 is sufficient to induce beige adipocytes (brown fat)[2]
- direct regulation of ADRB1 is a molecular mechanism for this
Structure
- belongs to the Sp1 C2H2-type Zn+2-finger protein family
- contains 3 C2H2-type Zn+2 fingers
Compartment
Expression
- expressed in liver > heart, skeletal muscle, kidney
- not expressed in bone marrow or lymphoid tissues
