- adhesive glycoprotein
- mediates cell-to-cell & cell-to-matrix interactions.
- acts as an extracellular mitogen
- stimulates early erythroid progenitors proliferation in presence of EPO
- can bind to fibrinogen, fibronectin, laminin & type 5 collagen
- interacts with PTBP3

- homopentamer; disulfide-linked
- belongs to the thrombospondin family
- contains 4 EGF-like domains
- contains 1 TSP C-terminal (TSPC) domain
- contains 1 TSP N-terminal (TSPN) domain
- contains 8 TSP type-3 repeats
