• receptor for natriuretic peptide hormones
• has broad specificity & can bind several distinct natriuretic peptides, including
  • atrial natriuretic peptide (NPPA)
  • brain natriuretic peptide (NPPB)
• does not have guanylate cyclase activity
• probably responsible for the clearance of natriuretic peptides from the circulation without a role in signal transduction
• low affinity for peptide hormones in the absence of bound chloride

Structure

• homodimer; disulfide-linked
• dimers can also be formed through the C-terminal Cys of isoform 2
• belongs to the ANF receptor family
