Function
- receptor for LH hormone
- activity is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylate cyclase
- activation results in secretion of testosterone & estradiol by Leydig cells & secretion of androstenedione (& other androgens) aromatized to estradiol by adjacent granulosa cells.
Structure
- belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family FSH/LSH/TSH subfamily
- contains 7 LRR repeats (leucine-rich repeats)
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Additional isoforms seem to exist
Expression
- expressed in gonadal & thyroid cells
- expressed by Leydig cells of the testes & theca cells of the ovary
Pathology
- defects in LHCGR are a cause of
