Baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein 2; inhibitor of apoptosis protein 2; HIAP-2; HIAP2; C-IAP1; TNFR2-TRAF-signaling complex protein 2; IAP homolog B; RING finger protein 48 (BIRC2, API1, IAP2, MIHB, RNF48)

Function
- apoptotic suppressor
- associates with TRAF1 & TRAF2 through N-terminal BIR domain to form a BIRC2-TRAF2-TRAF1 heterocomplex, which is then recruited to the TNF receptor 2 (TNFR2)
- interacts with SMAC & with PRSS25; these interactions inhibit apoptotic suppressor activity
Structure
- belongs to the IAP family
- contains 3 BIR repeats
- contains 1 CARD domain
- contains 1 RING-type Zn+2 finger
Compartment
Expression
- present in many fetal & adult tissues
- mainly expressed in adult skeletal muscle, thymus, testis, ovary, & pancreas
- low or absent in brain & peripheral blood leukocytes
