chronic hyperplastic sinusitis

Pathology

• benign proliferation of inflammatory tissues in the sinuses
• atopy
• proliferation of eosinophils & fibroblasts
• asthma is frequent association

Management

• treatment is disappointing; nothing provides objective improvement
• not a surgical disorder without underlying anatomical disorder
• no role for antibiotics
• nasal ipratropium may provide symptomatic relief
• nasal saline may provide symptomatic relief
