Introduction
Inherited tendency to develop type 1 hypersensitivity reactions.
- triad of atopy
- anaphylactoid reactions to drugs
- many urticarial reactions
Epidemiology
- individuals are genetically predisposed to asteatotic dermatitis in the winter & miliaria-like reactions (prickly heat) in the summer
- more common among children who are born in the U.S. than among those who move here[2]

- associated with polymorphisms in PLA2G7
