Etiology
- pica
- alcoholic beverages stored in lead crystal
- lead batteries
- aerosolized lead
Pathology
- accumulation of lead in proximal renal tubules
- chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis
Clinical manifestations
Laboratory
- aminoaciduria
- potassium excretory defects
- glycosuria
- serum lead concentrations are generally normal
- excessive urine excretion of chelated lead after injection of EDTA (diagnostic)
