Epidemiology

• uncommon
• 1% of patients with thrombosis

Laboratory

• low plasma fibrinogen by thrombin clotting method (50-130 mg/dL)
• prolonged dilute thrombin time

Management

• anticoagulation
• cryoprecipitate (as a source of fibrinogen) during surgery or following trauma
